Ant infestation?

There are multiple species of ants, however due to our climate not all are found in the UK. The species that are in the UK can be irritating for home and business owners should they gain access to your property. It is not known if these ants carry diseases, however this doesn’t mean you want these unwanted guests in your property. Ants invade your property in search of different food sources depending on the species of the ants; this can vary from sugary food to sauces. 

The thought of having bed bugs in your property can be worrying and distressing. Bed bugs are normally around 4 – 5 ml in length, and are wingless. They do however have long, well developed legs with claws for climbing on to the host for feeding. Bed bugs can stay undetected for some time and only make an appearance when they find a suitable host. They are commonly introduced to homes in second hand furniture, they have however spread more recently due to the global increase in international travel, meaning they are spreading via clothes and luggage, but second hand furniture is still the most common way they spread.

The cockroach is a tough insect, and they are able to breed rapidly. They are found throughout buildings but have a preference for warm humid areas. Cockroaches are good climbers, and are an extremely serious pest due to the speed at which they reproduce.

Fleas are a common nuisance across many homes in the UK, especially, although not exclusively to homes with pets. You can carry fleas in to your home if you come into contact with them somewhere else. Fleas are a type of parasite which can bite, causing an irritation or rash. 

There are tens of thousands of spider species worldwide, but only around 650 of these are found in the UK. Luckily most of the species found here are not considered dangerous, nor are they classified as pests, however many people are unnerved by them and find it unpleasant having them in their home. 

Silverfish thrive in conditions of high humidity. They are commonly found in dark damp areas, mainly kitchens, bathrooms, lofts and garages, but they are also able to survive in other environments. They can become a nuisance when they build up into large numbers which mostly happens in areas of high humidity.
